Welcome - Who are we?
Welcome to the Volkswagen Group Ireland Limited (‘VGIE’, ‘We’, ‘Our’) Privacy Notice (‘Notice’). This Notice explains to you, as a data subject and candidate, how we process your personal data for the purposes of your job application, your rights as a data subject, and other necessary information, in line with VGIE’s legal & privacy obligations.
We take your privacy as a candidate, and prospective employee, very seriously. Any personal data you provide to us on or via this website will be used by VGIE in accordance with this Notice.
VGIE is the data controller for the purposes of your application, with address at

If your application relates to a role with an independent dealer, as part of the VGIE Dealer Network, your application will be received centrally in the VGIE HR Department where it will then be securely transmitted to that relevant dealer. Where your application is for a role with an independent dealer, that dealer will be the data
controller of your personal data for the purposes of relevant data protection laws & VGIE will have no involvement in the process, other than to share your application.
Changes to this Notice & Our Promise!
As a responsible data controller, we will endeavour to protect your privacy at all times during the recruitment process. We provide this Notice to inform you of the purposes of processing, who you can contact in regards to the processing, etc. in line with our obligations under applicable data protection laws, to be transparent with our candidates. We may update this Notice from time to time and recommend that you regularly check for the most recent version.
Purposes for processing & our lawful basis for doing so
VGIE processes your personal data, as part of the recruitment process, to assess your suitability for the role in which you have applied. Your personal data is processed in line with our legitimate business interests as a data controller, as the lawful basis. Where you are successful as an applicant and are presented with an offer of employment, this lawful basis is likely to change. Such detail is provided for further in an internal VGIE employee privacy notice.
What do we mean by personal data?
Personal data is information about an identifiable individual. In the context of an employment application, such personal data might include:
- your name
- address
- e-mail address
- education
- professional qualifications
- employment history
- salary expectations
Personal data for these purposes does not include aggregated information or a business’s name, address and phone number that does not relate to an identifiable individual. For the avoidance of doubt, we do not collect any special category data for the purposes of the recruitment process.
Further information on how your personal data is used
Once we have collected your personal information through the careers site, we may use and/or disclose it in one or more of the following ways:
- Recruitment Opportunities – We may use your personal information in order to consider you for recruitment opportunities within Volkswagen Group Ireland or our franchise partners. This includes positions for which you have specifically applied for and positions which we feel, from your application, you may be suitable for and which may interest you. We may then use your personal information to communicate with you about these opportunities.
- Analysis – We may use information for internal recruitment and marketing analysis, for example, to assess trends amongst our potential staff and consumers or to measure the amount of traffic to our websites. We may also provide this information to certain third party agencies acting on our behalf, for example those who assist us with recruitment or evaluate the effectiveness of our service. We may also share non-personal information with others, such as our service providers and advertisers, in aggregate anonymous form, which means that the information will not contain any personally identifiable information about you.
- Sale or Transfer – In the event of a sale, merger, consolidation, change in control, transfer of substantial assets, financing, reorganisation or liquidation [of Volkswagen Group Ireland or a related entity], we may transfer or assign to third parties information concerning your relationship with us, including personally identifiable information that you have provided to us.
- Legal purposes – We may collect, use and/or disclose your personal information if permitted by law or required to do so by law or where we believe such action is necessary in order to detect, protect or defend us and/or other third parties against error negligence, breach of contract, theft, fraud and other illegal or harmful activity, to comply with our audit and security requirements, and to audit compliance with or corporate policies, procedures, legal and contractual obligations.
Disclosure of personal data
Your personal data will be shared internally within VGIE and externally to the Dealer Network to manage your application, or with recruitment agencies where your role is managed through an agency. Your personal data will not be shared with any other third parties and also will not be shared outside of the EEA.
Security, Data Retention & Other Matters
Information security
VGIE is committed to protecting the personal data that you provide to us. We have implemented appropriate administrative, technical and physical security controls to minimise the likelihood of unauthorised access, disclosure, modification or loss of your personal data that is under our control.
While VGIE have made reasonable efforts to protect your personal data, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. For example, we are not responsible for any intercepted data sent via the internet. You, the user, remain responsible for maintaining security of the equipment you use to access our service.
If you experience any suspicious activity while using our website, these should be reported using the contact information above.
Data retention
Where your application has been unsuccessful, personal data relating to your application will be deleted from our records within 60 days of that decision being communicated to you. Where you are successful, your personal data will then be subject to VGIE’s internal data retention policy, in line with your being a VGIE employee.
Your rights
Under data protection laws, you have a number of rights, regarding your personal data:
- Right of access;
- Right to rectification;
- Right of erasure / deletion;
- Right to restriction of processing;
- Right to object to processing;
- Right of data portability;
- Right not to be subject to automated decision making;
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
